Trail Map
Featured Trail Introduction: This hike starts at the trail head and comes close to Skyline Blvd before starting the return loop. Suntan lotion is probably not necessary on this hike since most of the hike is under a thick canopy provided by various trees.
Featured Trail: Follow trail marked in "Red" starting at Note 1.
Important Trail Notes
Note 1: From the Highway 35 (Skyline Blvd): Follow Highway 9 east for six-miles and turn right on Sanborne Road. From Saratoga: follow highway 9 for 2.5 miles and turn left on Sanborne Road.
Parking: Park in the main parking area, which is to the right of Entrance Kiosk.
Important Note: . Finding the trail head can be confusing. To get to the trail head leave the parking lot and find the sign to "Sequoia Group Area." This sign can be seen immediately after leaving the parking area. Take the trail at Sequoia and pass the barbecue pits and restrooms on the right and the picnic tables on the left. Cross over the wooden vehicle bridge and pass the old stage on the left and the unused building on the right. Follow the San Adreas Trail sign immediately behind the building.
Note 2: Immediately after the San Adreas Trail sign the trail splits; both trails end at almost the same place. For this Featured Trail, follow San Andreas trail, the left fork. The elevation at this point is 1,200 feet.
Note 3: Shortly the trail splits again. Follow Peterson Trail to the left (south).
Note 4: This is the junction of Peterson and Sanborne Trails. Make a sharp right turn and follow Sanborne Trail, which start out heading north. From this point on the trail becomes vary narrow and steep. Be careful: The trail follows along the face of a steep hill. This is not recommended for anyone who is not sure-footed or is scared of steep slopes.
Note 5: Continue on Sanborne Trail. At this point there are two signs: San Adreas Trail 1.8 miles and Hostel Trail Junction and the other Park Headquarters 1.8 miles. Follow this trail north toward park headquarters. The elevation is 2,300 feet.
Note 6: Follow San Andreas Trail east. Ignore the trail to the right.
Note 7: Follow the sign that indicates "Trail." Don't follow the fire road.
Note 8: Don't follow the trail toward the Hostel
Note 9: Follow the Service Road -away from the Host- and find Access Trail.
